Assemblages by Jean McGill.
Jean McGill is like a bowerbird. She collects beautiful objects, sometimes old, sometimes new. She then assembles them as small intimate works to be hung on the wall, to be appreciated in their new context and with new eyes. Antique rusty metal nails are positioned in a composition alongside curling eucalypt leaves to make the contrast between man-made objects and nature seem all the more poignant. Her aesthetic sensibilities derive from her diverse skills and experience in painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Each assemblage is a beautifully arranged, exquisite treasure-chest.
