Works on paper by DAGMAR RADOK
Evocative themes, executed in intricate detail in a variety of media – watercolour, gouache, tempera, charcoal and coloured pencils. Radok describes her method of beginning with a line which grows into shape, light and shadow. The images, and indeed the whole compositions, grow from within and β€œare inspired by this ancient continent – its elements of nature which are vessels for the invisible and at the same time nourished by European tradition.” This tradition is clear. The colours and images are flooded with the same richness and symbolism of a Kandinsky. Many are filled with disquieting perspectives and strange juxtapositions of mysterious symbols. They fascinate and captivate the viewer the same way that Chagall paintings and Blake poems do.
