7 Templestowe Road Melbourne Bulleen VIC Australia
Comprising of three galleries situated on a sprawling garden landscape, Heide Museum of Modern Art is well known as the birthplace of Australian modernism. Steeped in a rich and colourful social history, Heide was a refuge for artists such as Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker and Joy Hester to name a few. The majority of Nolan's now iconic Ned Kelly series was actually painted on the dining room table of Heide's heritage listed farmhouse, Heide I. Today, it is a public art gallery which boasts a well-rounded collection and highly regarded exhibitions program. Heide is also home to the award-winning architecture of Heide II and the sprawling Sculpture Garden which is always free to enter and enjoy. Due to Heide 2005-06 Redevelopment Program, Heide II, Heide III (the main gallery) and Heide Cafe are now closed until their reopening in 2006. However, Heide's door is always open to the public, and during 2005 the many narratives comprising the future, past and present of the Museum will be surveyed at Heide’s hearth – the original weatherboard home of John and Sunday Reed, Heide I.
