Three dimensional works on paper by Helen Seligman
Central Victorian printmaker Helen Seligman has once again utilized paper as a sculptural medium. Flat paper has been moulded into corrugated forms. The corrugating process strengthens iron and paper alike, thus the paper forms are rendered remarkably robust and resilient. But there is something about the solidity of iron and the fragility of paper which creates a sense of ambiguity in these works. They speak of the extraordinariness of everyday objects; they tell stories, evoke histories. Helen’s work is informed by both outer and inner landscapes. These are works both on and of paper, and their whispered meanings hang between surface image and three-dimensional form.
