The beauty and tranquility of the landscape between Ballarat and Castlemaine is the subject of the exhibition entitled “Lay of the Land” by Carolyn Graham.
Carolyn's new linocuts have her trademark simplicity and graphic style. Unnecessary detail is eliminated leaving simple views of gentle hills, ploughed fields and planted windbreaks, often tousled by wind or flooded in evening or early morning light. With direct lines and bold compositions, Carolyn manages to capture the essence as well as the beauty of these hills, trees and fields. Her ability to convey weather conditions, seasons and times of the day is once again evident in the 20 works exhibited. Carolyn’s interpretations make us see anew the calm beauty of our familiar surroundings.
