Landscape paintings from Central Victoria
In the downstairs gallery space, Michael Wolfe is showing a series of paintings entitled ‘Ironbark Cathedral’. Framed paintings display his own language ‘to express the abstract experience of the Australian landscape rather than exploring the psychological relationship between man and nature’ he writes. His language becomes a personal aesthetic..’something like handwriting, the gestural notation, the shorthand of suggestion, the calligraphic landscape’. His mark-making and rich colour schemes describe this monumental and timeless land in a highly personal, abstract manner.
