Bio: Neil Haddon defiantly turns minimalist abstraction on its head.

For one thing, he uses glossy acrylic house-paints, straight from the can, choosing his colours almost randomly. For another, he cheekily distorts the picture-plane, tilting his geometric patterns into a sometimes verti-ginous perspective. Then he distresses the paint surface with scratches, dents and
other suggestions of aging, damage and decay.

The new becomes old, purity is corrupted, wholeness fragmented.

Born in England, Neil Haddon moved to Hobart in 1996, after six years in Spain. He currently lectures at the Tasmanian School of Art and has exhibited widely in Spain and Australia.
