CV: Ngaire Winwood is an emerging artist who began her artistic career later in life than most.
In April 2004, she initiated and coordinated, on a volunteer basis, a highly successful community art industry project to deliver art education and promotion to regional artists of all skill levels from southern, south-west and border districts of Queensland over a period of 8 months. She received a Regional Arts Development Fund from the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. During this time, she also developed a comprehensive free monthly art newsletter for regional artists and art industry businesses to promote regional artists work and to deliver relevant art news articles. The main purpose of this project was to create a mentoring and support service for isolated southern regional artists and to help them improve their profiles and skill development.
In June 2004, she has been able to place a significant amount of time to develop her art career on a full time basis.
She is a self-taught artist, although she has participated in workshops with Michael Taylor, Bernard Ollis to improve her knowledge and skills. Her developing natural and inquisitive interpretations of everyday subjects develop into a second language, when she uses symbolic meanings to enhance the neverending inanimate conversations within her work.
Recently she received a Queensland Arts Council grant to gain valuable tuition to tighten her skills to develop into a traditional portrait artist.
Her acknowledgement that specialised modern artwork is gaining momentum as a therapeutic tool, Ngaire endeavours to develop this type of work portraying this special healing purpose, what she likes to call it, “heart art”. Her heart is torn between 'heart art' and her dedication to traditional draughtsmanship skills. She will continue to develop both of these styles, while she forges her career into realism portraiture, for Ngaire, this is a perfect creative balance of a life long dream.
In such a short career, already many of her paintings are been snapped up at exhibitions by private and business collectors throughout regional New South Wales and Queensland, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and London.
