KIM BARTER is an expressionist artist. The abstracted shapes and colours in her monotypes and paintings inevitably describe her own responses to the world around her.
Sounds, feelings, sights are the subjects of Barter's works. Olga wraps her arms around a goose in a loving hug, a mother pushes her laughing baby in a pram, a bird goes flapping by… Her subjects are those we all see around us and can relate to easily. She responds to simultaneous vulnerability and strength in the simplest of things, like a fleeting kiss or embrace which connect people. She expresses happiness and derives comfort herself from this.
