Liz Caffin's technical skill and whimsical humour combine to produce fragments of memories or imaginings of our European heritage.
Her Greek works are inspired by, and recall Ancient Greek mythology; the chaos of modern Athens with its mix of motorbikes and ruins; and the gentle and pleasant life on the Greek Island, Zante. Occasionally the echidna appears as a reminder of the artistís home territory in the bushland of Central Victoria. It visits Venetian and Greek sites to suggest our European past. As a visitor, the echidna is in a strange yet historically familiar setting. Just as the artist is a product of both European and Australian cultures, the echidna is at home in both contexts.
