In contrast to the technical detail and psychological narrative of David Frazer’s works in the downstairs exhibition, David Golightly’s paintings and works on paper are painterly and abstract. They rely on the sensations and emotions created from pure colour. Aesthetic compositions are created from multiples of small boards mounted together. Each individual painting has a richness and vibrancy of its own and juxtaposed with others, creates a powerful impact. Emotions of both the artist and viewer are visible. Sometimes the colour combinations are jarring and angry; other times they blend harmoniously creating a sensation of calm and tranquillity.
